ABOUT

A coach in your ear, made of code

Sports Officials Radio is a small web app for referees, umpires and line officials who train on their own. It turns a workout into a running order and reads it out while you move, so your eyes stay up and your phone stays in your pocket (screen on: most phones pause web audio when they lock).

How the sound is made

Every sound is made on your device: the tones by your browser's Web Audio, the voice by an on-device speech voice (the player skips online voices). No recordings of people. The tones are short sine-wave beeps generated as you run. The spoken calls use whichever voice your phone or computer provides for reading text aloud, so the voice differs between devices. The player uses only on-device voices; if a browser has none, the player says so and runs on tones and the screen.

Nothing is streamed, so a workout uses no data once the page has loaded.

Where the workouts come from

The eight stations are written by this site as general training patterns: easy base, tempo, short intervals, a shuttle ladder, movement calls, sprints, a game-length run and a warm-up. They are not copied from, and do not stand in for, any association's fitness test. Not affiliated with any officials' association, league or governing body. The stations are written by this site; they are not any association's fitness test.

Who runs it

Sports Officials Radio is a WeldonPC.com site. Day to day it runs without staff: no coaches, no moderators and no mailing list. There are no ads and no trackers.

Your data

Stations, the Studio, the Cone Card and the Season Plan store nothing. The Logbook stores only what you type into it, under a private link. See Privacy.

Training information, not medical advice. Check with your doctor before hard training; stop if you feel chest pain, dizziness, faintness or unusual breathlessness.
